One frosty morning, playing with colour inversion

Here are two pictures of frost on the hood of my car this morning. The sun is up opposite my perspective so the camera (iPhone) has reduced the overall exposure and they look greyer than they appeared to my eye.

The first I cropped out a bit of grass in the background to leave just the frost visible. The texture is apparent and seems a bit deeper than it really is. I thought it was an interesting shot.

Out of curiosity I inverted the colours. Interesting that, to me, it creates a bit of an illusion of deeper profiles as if it were a mountain range receding into the distance. The shot does not lend itself well to creating a sense of horizon so I tried that with a second picture... below.

In this one I left the image uncropped so there is grass and a bit of the deflector showing.

Here is the inverted colour image. The grass takes on a sky look, which I wasn't expecting, and the impression of depth is greater again. If the "horizon" were properly proportioned it might actually look a little like an alien landscape... perhaps "other worldly" might be a better phrase to use.
